Choosing the Storyline: Wednesday 4th November 2009

This is a late entry but there is some work that is only in print/hardcopy so I felt that it is important to include this here.

Before we decided to use the current storyline for our trailer, we brainstormed many other ideas that appealed to us:

They are the following:

  1. Ouija Board
A group of friends decide to go to a member's empty house. They all decide to use the Ouija board. However, one of the members feel skeptical about this. After a lot of persuasion, she decides to give an join the other friends. The ouija board begins to respond and the girl gets shocked. It threatens the group by messaging - 'I will kill you.' The groupd of friends decide to ignore this and soon after realise that everything has changed. Unusual things happen as one by one, each member faces a life threatening event.

2. Serial killer on the loose
A beastly serial killer is on the loose, particularly targetting girls with blonde hair and blue eyes. A girl is home alone, vunerable to the serial killer. She escapes the wrath of the killer but fails to prove that all of this had occured to her parents as the house once trashed, was left untouched when they returned to check it.

3. Haunted House
A new couple buy house. Feeling uneasy, the wife tells her husband that something feels wrong about it. The husband reassures her. As he leaves for work, the wife witnesses some dark and mysterious life form in her house.

4. Girl killed by mother
A family lives in a house in which a girl was killed by her own mother. The spirit of the mother returns to avenge her death. With this aim, the girl haunts the family to help her. A series of distress and bloodshed occurs as the girl's spirit tries to achieve her goal.

5. A woman kills her son

A woman who is seriously involved with spirits and souls ends up killing her son. The spirits and souls continue to play with her mind to ruin her life as a human.

The Music Track: Monday 7th December 2009

After searching different websites such as:

www.youtube.com
http://musicbakery.com
www.musicloops.com
www.moviedownloadmatrix.com

and many more, we found a few tracks that sounded well with our trailer. We focused on religious signicance and frightening sounds that reinforced the theme of our trailer being exorcism, murder and pain.

There is a particular track that interested us:
'Summon the Demons'

This track included the orchestra music, the piano and church bells. By editing this soundtrack we can use the sound to emphasis the shots of the trailer. However, we are researching further to make sure that this is the perfect track.

We haved looked at the following clips as potentials:

- Evanescence- Lithium
- Childrens Choice- Anthem for satan
- Eximius84- Suman the demans ****
- Dark theme- Rohith

We will continue our search for good tracks for our horror trailer.

Filming: Saturday 5th December 2009

The day started at 10:00am sharp as we met in norbury to take a trip to the graveyard. As we entered the big, spiked black gates of the graveyard we observed the thousands of tombstones positioned in the field. It was a frightening experience, especially when it was my first time in actually entering a graveyard. We travelled through the far end of the graveyard and located a well lit spot where there was an old looking, cross shaped tombstone titled on the ground. We felt that this enhanced the fear factor of the shot. We wrapped up after this shot and rushed out of the graveyard as if someone was following us, well that is what it felt like anyway.

At my house, we set up the film set by clearing out all the unuseful props in the backgorund. The rain was created by a hose pipe which we adjusted to create little droplets of rain. This hose pipe was held from a higher level to make it look more realistic. The actress was directed to actually scream frantically in the rain, using body language to express pain and suffering. We filmed a lot of takes of different angles and distances just in case the shots weren't good enough on screen.

It was a thought of the moment to film birds flying up to the roof. This idea sparked up as we were testing the camera so we decided to make the birds fly from the ground by running across the garden. This was an effective idea as happened to become a shot that we are going to use in our trailer. We felt that it brought a sense of realism to our trailer.

This very same day, we let the actress dry from all that imitation rain whilst we filmed the photo frame shot. This was slightly difficult as we failed to hide away the strings that pulled the frame forward. However, we managed to create the effect in the end. We were scheduled to film the shed scene, but realised that the shed door would not shake (we made someone stupidly bang the door continuously for a bit of fun :)..) to create the effect that we hoped to achieve so we decided to remove this shot from the trailer.

After a long day of acting, filming and directing we packed up and kept our fingers crossed hoping for some really good footage.

We started early today, 10:00am on a Saturday morning. We felt that we were very committed to our task to be sacrificing sleep to take a trip to the graveyard. I will write about this later in my blog so that I can include some images that are yet to be sent to me.

Time was against us as we rushed to our location to film the famous 'Prayer Scene.' We knew that we had a lot of setting up to do and that our time was limited to just an hour or so. When we reached the house, we realised that we had to move the furniture to isolate the setting. Our aim was to create an eerie atmosphere with hundreds of candles surrounding Elizabeth's late mother's picture. This picture was photoshopped in order to give it an 'antique' touch. We then had to set up the tripod with the dolly. Our rotating shot required stability and slow movement. We achieved this by having one person control the camera whilst the other pushes the dolly across the room. It wasn't as easy as we thought it would be but we did a lot of takes just in case the shot didn't present well. We included this shot to highlight the religious theme of the movie/trailer. This is an important concept of our trailer as it is dominantly based on exorcism.

This is before we blocked the light to darken the room. The sun light lit the room which made the setting look less eerie.
Preparing the Film Set.

Filming the 'Prayer Scene'
Preparing the beautiful film set for the 'Prayer Scene,' We had to be aware of the time so that the candles dont light out by the time we film the shots
Filming in the car, with very little space. As you can see, the windows are frosted which is why we could not film shot 18 through the window. We postponed this shot for a later date.

Filming: Tuesday 1st December 2009

It was a beautifully lit day to shoot today. We were able to use the sun to our advantage. British weather usually surprises us with tears but Britain was happy today. We began by collecting our equipment and props to make sure that we have everything we need to film. We then set out to our chosen location which is the deserted area of Tooting Bec Park. I was able to park my car close to the set so that we could easily access our equipment. We then chose the best spots to film the scenes, being where the sun light hit. This enabled us to film with better picture quality. Our actress, Jasmine (The Producer) struggeled to cope with the weather so we stopped to warm her up every now and then. We shot the investigation scene first, using an actual body to act dead on the floor. We used iconography such as splattered blood on the white sheets to highlight the horror genre. Then, whilst Jasmine was getting hair and make up done, we shot the hand held camera shot and added a bloody hand at the end of it. This would represent another murder occurring. We then went on to filming the scene where Elizabeth moves closer to the camera. This took the longest as we had to shoot many of these shots with the actress in different positions to maximise the effect we wanted to acheive. When finishing this, we went back to my house to shoot the remaining scenes.

The 'bath tub' scene was very difficult to shoot. It was hard to acheive the effect we wanted. This is because the actress kept slipping in to the water and was unable to pull herself up in time to create the realistic effect. The shower scene from Carrie inspired us to shoot this scene as we felt that water was used constantly in horror films. We shot this scene successfully in the end as we came up with an idea to let the person who was filming the shot at the time stand on the feet of the actress to help her lift herself up from the water in time. We thought to edit it later on to perfect the shot.

The final shots were of Elizabeth 'crawling' and her 'crab walk.' Filming these scenes even frightened the crew. We adjusted the tripod to suit these scenes and filmed many takes in case if any problems arised. After these shots, we wrapped it up. It was an enjoyable but tiring day for all of us.

Indoors, shooting in the warmth, for a change. We adjusted the tripod to shoot the crab walk scene more effectively.
Concentration, that is all I can say about this one
Making fun of the actress that is trembling in pain (because of the cold weather and her paper thin night gown)
Showing off our shooting skills
Everyone pretending to be extremely happy to film in the freezing cold weather
